There are so many ways your (art)work can shift when you rely on it for income. There’s the external pressure to create “great” work every time and one that everyone will want to buy as soon as they see it.
The pressure from social media to just keep on pumping out new work to produce new relevant “content” for people to consume is unreal.
It’s too damn much, honestly, makes me sick to my stomach at times.
I want to bask in the process… to let my ideas and materials guide my hands across the pages or iPad screen. I want to play, expand, experiment and be delighted by surprises.
I have felt that I need to be a machine and it’s just not possible to function creating in such a way. Making art is personal and simply cannot be for the masses or rushed.
So I must create for my own soul and that is simply enough.
